Living With Diabetes

Who is this program for?

Rehab Solutions Australia's Living with Diabetes program is for those patients who have been diagnosed or at risk of Type 2 Diabetes.

 

Type 2 Diabetes is a health condition in which the body becomes resistant to the insulin produced by the body or is unable to produce enough insulin which can cause a build up of glucose in the blood. Too much blood glucose can cause a variety of health issues which include damage to the blood vessels and nerves leading to such complications as heart attacks, strokes, ulcers and amputations.

People who are at risk of type 2 diabetes include those who:

  • have a family history of type 2 diabetes

  • are older - risk increases with age

  • are overweight

  • have high blood pressure

  • have an Aboriginal or Torres Straight Islander background

  • have a Pacific Islander, Indian or Chinese background

  • are a woman who has given birth to a child over 4.5kg, had gestational diabetes or has a condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

What does the Living With Diabetes Program Offer?

Our program includes:

 

  • An initial assessment with one of our Exercise Physiologists or Dietitians to determine your baselines and suitability of the program.

  • 8 x 60 minute group Exercise Physiology and/or Dietetics sessions.

  • A comprehensive initial assessment and post-program report to your GP

How much does the program cost?

Private / Private Health Insurance

Initial assessment                      $80

8 x 60 minute group sessions     $140

If you have private health insurance, you may be able to claim a rebate from your private health insurer via HICAPS on the spot.

​

Medicare

If you have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, it is possible to have this program fully covered by medicare. To receive this, you will need to see your GP to ask if you are eligble to receive a Medicare referral.
